Ferrari: Webber in 2013 then Vettel from 2014?

The 2012 Formula 1 season is only at its sixth Grand Prix this weekend, but since the beginning of the season, transfer rumors have been rife. The latest is the possible signing of a pre-contract by Sebastian Vettel to join Scuderia Ferrari in 2014.

In any case, this is what the British daily *The Independent* claims: «Sources are convinced that the German has signed an option with Ferrari for 2014, subject to stable competitiveness of the Prancing Horse for the rest of the 2012 season.»

Another daily newspaper across the Channel, The Sunday Times, seems to have the same sources, but it goes further in its analysis, specifying that Mark Webber could precede Vettel at Ferrari in 2013, as Felipe Massa’s contract ends at the end of the year: With Alonso’s contract ending in 2016, there might only be a spot for one season if Ferrari decides to replace Felipe Massa. […] If a vacant seat is confirmed for 2013, it argues in favor of Webber slipping into it.

The Australian driver has often been mentioned to join Scuderia Ferrari recently, and according to the British daily, at nearly 36 years old, his career is rather behind him even though he is still competitive, as proven by his pole position in Monaco followed by a victory, his first this season and his second in the Principality after the one in 2010. Joining Ferrari for a one-year contract could allow him to finish his F1 career beautifully: At 36 in August, the Australian realizes that the end of his F1 career is approaching – and a final year in the most iconic team alongside his friend Alonso could conclude his illustrious career.
