Sergio Pérez penalized 5 grid places

Following his off-track excursion during Q1 yesterday in qualifying, Sergio Pérez was unable to defend his chances to secure a good position on the starting grid. He was supposed to start from the 24th and last place on the grid. Ultimately, following the penalties given to Pastor Maldonado, the Mexican driver moved up to the 23rd place.

But the Sauber team decided to change the gearbox of Pérez’s C31, without specifying the reason. Perhaps due to a problem or to take advantage of this poor grid position to take a penalty with little to no consequences. Whatever the reason, the young Mexican will start in less than two hours from the last position on the grid of the Monaco Grand Prix.

His goal will likely be to climb as high as possible in the hierarchy and take advantage of every opportunity to possibly secure a top 10 finish and the points that come with it.
