Saturday: An excellent team result for Mercedes
The two drivers of the Mercedes AMG team managed to place in the top 3 in qualifying. Michael Schumacher set the fastest time, but he will start 6th tomorrow after his penalty is applied. Nico Rosberg set the 3rd fastest time and will start 2nd due to Schumacher's penalty, which gives him hope for a good result.
Michael Schumacher – 8th and Pole position (6th on the grid)
« It’s simply an incredible feeling to achieve a pole position after so much time, and even more here in Monaco. It took a little longer than I hoped in the second chapter of my career, but that makes it even more enjoyable. It’s really beautiful. We’ve always thought this circuit should suit us, and it’s the perfect combination of all the work from every team member in Brackley, Brixworth, and Stuttgart – a big thank you to each of them, because this is a team result.
Of course, it’s a shame not to start from the front row, but that’s how it is. I will do the best I can. We know that overtaking is difficult, but with the DRS and KERS you can at least try—and you can be sure that I will take my chances.

« I am thrilled with today’s result and especially with what we have shown as a team in recent weeks. We have had some complicated races since our victory in China, but everyone has worked hard to turn the situation around, and today we were leading as a team, which is nice to see. A big thank you to everyone at the factory who enabled us to get back to the forefront.
It was a rather quiet qualifying session, and we managed to save two sets of new super-softs for the race, but it was so close on track this afternoon, it’s incredible and fantastic for Formula 1. Congratulations to Michael, he did an excellent job. Of course, I’m sorry for him because he has to take his penalty, but it means I’ll be on the front row in Monaco. And for a race where overtaking can be difficult, it’s a good place.
