Already delays for the organization of the Russian Grand Prix?

Russia is set to host its first Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2014, in Sochi – which will also host the Winter Olympics that same year. The organization of the race is currently being prepared but is reportedly already behind schedule with two years to go.

In any case, this is what a Russian Automobile Federation advisor disclosed. Igor Yermilin indicated to RIA Novosti that there had been significant changes in the organizational structure of the Grand Prix, notably with the departure of certain officials from Omega, the company in charge of the project.

Yermilin also stated that the Grand Prix, which is scheduled to take place after the Olympics, is not the current priority: The priority for now is the Olympic Games; the Grand Prix is sidelined. This could therefore lead to significant delays in meeting preparation schedules.

Igor Yermilin remains convinced that even if there are delays now, the Grand Prix will take place on time and it will be a success: «I have no doubt that this event will be organized successfully. Our country has never failed to organize such global events, nor has it ever failed to meet its obligations. Even more so considering the fact that Vladimir Putin has become our president.»
