Carlos Sainz Jr on his way to F1?

Carlos Sainz Jr could be the next driver from the Red Bull program to compete in F1, especially since he has the support of the CEPSA company, whose logo appears notably on the Toro Rosso, Red Bull's second F1 team.

Carlos Sainz Jr on his way to F1?

Carlos Sainz Jr, the son of Carlos Sainz, who was notably a double world champion in Rally, is part of the young driver program for the Red Bull team. He could therefore follow in the footsteps of Sebastian Vettel, Sébastien Buemi, Jaime Alguersuari, Daniel Ricciardo, and one day drive in F1 with the Toro Rosso team.

Even though he is only 17 years old, the career of the young Spaniard seems well on its way, especially since he has recently been supported by the Spanish oil company CEPSA, which is also a sponsor of the Toro Rosso team.

After very strong performances in Formula Renault 2.0 last year, Sainz Jr is racing in British F3 this season and is enjoying just as much success – he has secured two victories in the first six races and is currently leading the championship.

The objective is clear, to be in Formula 1, and it is also the goal that his sponsor wishes to achieve, as stated by Santiago Bergareche, vice-president of CEPSA, quoted by Marca: « Our intention is to continue (beyond 2012 to help Sainz Jr). »

Alfonso Escamez, the President of the Spanish company, shares the same opinion, he hopes to see his protégé in F1 one day: «Let’s hope everything goes well and that Carlos will be in this world (F1) one day. Sponsors have no say in the choice of drivers. But we can try to influence, to give our opinion, but we have no (decision-making) power on this side. We hope it will happen, but it’s not certain.»
