Sunday: the Mercedes was not fast enough
Nico Rosberg hoped to do better than 7th, but his car encountered a problem and his pace wasn't sufficient to aim for better. Michael Schumacher, on the other hand, had to retire following a collision with Bruno Senna. The German driver blames the Williams driver. But both men and the entire Mercedes team are now focused on the next race in Monaco.
Nico Rosberg – 7th
« It was a difficult day for us and a strange race. We didn’t manage to find the right tire management so I lost two places at the end of the race on my last stint which lasted 26 laps. The positive point is that I was able to defend my place against Lewis and therefore remain 7th, rather than 8th. Once again today, we saw a surprise and a well-deserved victory which is good for Formula 1. Congratulations to Pastor and Frank (Williams) in my former team Williams! Now I look forward to Monaco, where I reside, in two weeks with some new developments on the car. »
Michael Schumacher – Retirement
« Obviously, I’m not happy with the outcome of the race because I think we could have scored good points today. But these things happen in motor racing. It’s not easy to see on the TV replays but from my point of view he went right to defend the inside, and suddenly, just after the braking point, he went left. When you are so close in the braking zone, you have nothing else to do but try to react and avoid the collision, but it was too late. It’s really a shame, as I said, but what I’m going to do now is focus on the next race and try to attack there. »
