Webber, focused on 2012, denies any contract with Ferrari

At the heart of a rumor from Spain suggesting he may move to Ferrari in 2013, Mark Webber asserts that he is focused on the current season and will consider his future in due time. The Australian denies the existence of any contract with the Maranello team and points out that he is just another name on the list of potential candidates to succeed Felipe Massa.

Webber, focused on 2012, denies any contract with Ferrari

Last Sunday, the Spanish publication El Confidencial claimed that Mark Webber would, according to a reliable source, be a Ferrari driver in 2013, although no contract has been signed. However, after the Malaysian Grand Prix where he finished second behind the F2012, it was Sergio Perez, a driver of the Ferrari Driver Academy and currently under contract with Sauber, who was in the lead: « Sergio [Perez] was the favorite last week for a seat at Ferrari, now it’s me. I am 100% focused on this season and on doing the best job possible for myself and for Red Bull Racing. I am not spreading my energy elsewhere » reacted Mark Webber in the Italian press, during the private tests at Mugello.

And the Australian added: “There is a whole season ahead of us before we have to think about the future. One day people talk about Jenson [Button joining Ferrari], then it’s Sergio, now it’s my turn. I haven’t signed anything. My focus is on the team; we’ve had a good start to the season. We’ve only had four races and the road is very, very, very long before we start talking about my future,” insisted the great Mark.

The Red Bull driver, consistently finishing in fourth place since the start of the season, is currently in third position in the driver standings, allowing him to keep his title hopes alive in what has been a very competitive season so far: « The grid is very tight! Sebastian [Vettel] had a problem-free weekend in Bahrain and won, but he didn’t dominate; the same went for the others. No one will dominate during the first half of the season, so arriving in Europe in third place is not so bad. »
