Sunday: Vettel and Red Bull Back on Top
Thanks to a brilliant performance in Bahrain, Sebastian Vettel has returned to success. The German driver clinched his first victory of the season and the first for Team Red Bull as well. Mark Webber completed a good weekend for the Austrian team by finishing 4th in the race.
Sebastian Vettel – Winner
« It was an incredible race, extremely difficult. Getting a good start was crucial, and I was able to break away from the rest of the pack, which was a big advantage since we had to race on used tires as we had nearly used them all yesterday during qualifying: Kimi was very fast, as was Grosjean.
But everything seemed to work well today: the strategy was good and I can only thank the whole team and the guys in the garage. I said it yesterday, they have done an incredible job during the last four races, the amount of work to be done was so significant. We asked a lot from them, changes here and there, and they came up with new parts, then the old ones, and the new ones again, and they spent a lot of time in the garage trying to set up the car to our liking. But we made it. Kimi was very fast today and it was close, but I am really happy and proud of the whole team.
Mark Webber – 4th
(D) I didn’t get off to a bad start. I didn’t have KERS on the first lap, so it was difficult to put pressure on Lewis, but I eventually managed to do it. In the first two stints, I couldn’t keep up with the others – both Lotus and Seb – so I had to consolidate my race. Lotus had a good car and when everything comes together well, it all works – they did a great job today and it shows how tight the championship is; there have been four different winners. I scored good points today and our two drivers and Red Bull Racing are well placed in both championships. It wasn’t the most exciting race for me, but it’s a good start to the championship. I’m looking forward to returning to Europe. (F)
