Saturday: Sauber aims for points after a good qualifying
On a circuit they consider less favorable to the C31, the Sauber drivers did not expect to do as well as in China but are pleased with the qualifying result and will aim for points again in the race. Sergio Perez will start in 8th position while Kamui Kobayashi, who made a small mistake in his fast lap, will start from 12th place.
Sergio Perez – 13th and 8th:
« Today was a good qualifying and another great team effort. The result is much better than we could have hoped for after the free practice sessions. We really managed to maximize the car’s potential today.
The goal now is to gain a few positions at the start and then we’ll see how things unfold. It will be quite tricky for everyone tomorrow in terms of tire degradation.
A new podium doesn’t seem realistic at all; it’s not an easy track for us anyway, but we will try to score points.
Kamui Kobayashi – 14th and 12th:
With my last set of fresh tires, it went well and I was able to improve at the start of my last lap, but then I made a mistake at turn 11. I lost a few tenths there. Overall, the car was much better in qualifying than during free practice this morning. Basically, we reverted to yesterday’s settings and it was the right decision.
This circuit should be relatively good for overtaking. Of course, a good top speed is essential for that, and I hope we can do well tomorrow.
