Sunday: Grosjean puts his Lotus in the points
Lotus could have achieved a very good overall result today. But a few laps from the finish, Kimi Räikkönen was let down by his tires when he was about to finish on the podium. While the Finn ended up out of the points, his teammate brought the car home and scored important points for himself and his team.
Kimi Räikkönen – 14th
« We tried a two-stop strategy which seemed to be the fastest option and until the last 10 laps it was working quite well, but we lost performance at the end. I was stuck behind Felipe Massa for a while and I couldn’t get past him even though I was fast. Even if I had overtaken him, I don’t think it would have made a big difference. We had a good race pace and we tried a strategy, but it didn’t pay off, it’s as simple as that. »
Romain Grosjean – 6th
« It was a very good race, I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I made a small mistake while battling with Mark Webber, but overall it was a good performance. The car was good and the team did an incredible job to bring us improvements since Friday, so I am particularly happy for the guys to have been able to finish the race and score some points. Fighting with the McLarens and Red Bulls is something great and I am happy to have started my season well. We had high hopes since the third place on the grid in Melbourne and now after a few setbacks, it’s time to aim higher. There is always room for improvement and I hope we can aim for the top 5 and eventually podiums. We will take things one at a time, but I feel confident for the rest of the season. »
