Vergne will start from the pits tomorrow in China
Jean-Eric Vergne qualified in 18th place during the qualifications in China, but the Frenchman will ultimately start from the pits as the Toro Rosso team decided to modify the settings of the tricolor driver's car.
After a disappointing qualifying session, Jean-Eric Vergne and the Toro Rosso team engineers decided to modify the settings of the French driver’s STR7. However, as this is prohibited after the qualifying session since the cars are under Parc Fermé conditions, Vergne will have to start from the pit lane tomorrow.
“We’re going to change some things on the car and as a result, we’ll start from the pits tomorrow. I didn’t make any mistakes, I’m just lacking grip. Starting from the pits, I’ll have a good view of the start. Honestly, I have no hope, I just want a fast car and then many things can happen,” the French driver told RMC Sport.
The modifications made to Vergne’s STR7 might allow him to have a more competitive single-seater tomorrow for the race, which could enable him to move up in the hierarchy.
