Saturday: New elimination in Q1 for Vergne

The Toro Rosso drivers did not achieve the performance they hoped for. Jean-Eric Vergne failed to qualify for Q2, while Daniel Ricciardo could only manage the last time in Q2. Both men do not understand why the STR7 lacked competitiveness and they hope that tomorrow will be another day.

Saturday: New elimination in Q1 for Vergne

Daniel Ricciardo – 17th and 17th

This 17th position is not satisfying, as I expected better today. I drove as well as possible, but it didn’t result in a sufficient time. With the car we have, I don’t think I could have done more. Let’s hope for a better day tomorrow and then we will have to see how to improve our performance in qualifying for the next race.

We are not where we want to be, especially because before this weekend, we thought we could get closer to the top 10. For now, we have no explanations as to what happened. This weekend, we had a few new things but we also tried some drastic measures which forced me to drive differently, so either we can make everything work in Bahrain or we may have to take a step back for a better understanding of things.

Jean-Eric Vergne – 16th and 18th

I don’t feel good after that (the qualifications). I’m not too sure what happened this afternoon, but we lacked speed. My lap wasn’t exceptional, but it wasn’t bad either, so we need to try to understand why it was so slow.

All we can do is try to have a good afternoon tomorrow and then improve the car for the upcoming races, because what happened this afternoon is simply strange. It’s true that I achieved a good result starting from far back in Malaysia, but it would be nice to be in a better position on the grid for the next races. I will feel better tomorrow morning and I look forward to seeing what the race will bring.
