Button would like to race alongside Alonso

Jenson Button joined the McLaren team at the beginning of 2010 alongside Lewis Hamilton, and many observers thought that the 2009 world champion wouldn’t be able to keep up, but he proved to his critics that he could hold his own against a driver of Hamilton’s caliber.

The Briton is delighted with his relationship with his compatriot and admitted that if Lewis Hamilton were not by his side, he would have liked to race alongside Fernando Alonso, the recent winner of the Malaysian Grand Prix driving his Ferrari.

Lewis is extremely fast, we see it constantly, and it’s really exciting to have a teammate like him. It’s tough sometimes, but other days it’s enjoyable, and it’s a true challenge that I really appreciate. But if Lewis were not in Formula 1, for example, I think I would really want to have Fernando as a teammate, Button told the Daily Mail.

Button is full of praise for Alonso even though he believes that Alonso is not necessarily the best in every area: «Fernando is very talented, he is a double world champion, he is fast. Is he the fastest? Probably not, and he would probably say the same, but he is very intelligent.»
