Pirelli considers Alguersuari and Trulli
Pirelli is looking for a test driver for the 2012 season and two names seem to stand out, Jaime Alguersuari and Jarno Trulli.
According to the Spanish daily newspaper AS, Jaime Alguersuari is in a good position to become Pirelli’s future test driver and thus conduct tire tests for the 2013 season aboard the R30 recently purchased by the Italian manufacturer.
Pirelli plans to start its first tests by May, presumably at the Jerez circuit in Spain, but before that the official F1 tire manufacturer must find a driver to carry out these tests. Lucas di Grassi could be a possible candidate, as could Jaime Alguersuari, but Paul Hembery, the competition director at Pirelli, has never hidden his desire to hire a driver with recent F1 experience and therefore Pirelli tires experience—which suits Alguersuari—but also with good F1 experience.
According to AS, another driver would fit these two criteria better than Jaime Alguersuari, and that is Jarno Trulli, who was dropped by the Caterham team in favor of Vitaly Petrov for 2012. The possibility for Pirelli, the Italian manufacturer, to have an Italian driver seems to be an appealing option according to the Spanish daily.
