Sunday: Force India Avoids Pitfalls
After a disappointing qualification, Force India managed to avoid pitfalls this Sunday and scored points with both cars.
Paul di Resta – 7th
The start of the race was a bit chaotic and it was mainly about staying on the track and avoiding problems. I did quite well until Maldonado hit me before the red flag, which caused me to spin and cost me three places. At the restart, our pace was very good with the intermediates and we were able to keep up with the leading group. Since the track was drying up, we switched to slicks at the same time as everyone else, which was the best option, and we tried to maintain a position in the points. We were a bit lucky with the issues the cars ahead faced, but in races like that, you need a bit of luck and given our starting position, I think we can be very happy with this result.
Nico Hülkenberg – 9th
« I think that our performance today with both cars in the points is a great result for the team and I am very happy to score my first points of the season. It was a complicated race and the rain certainly shook up the standings. I must say that today’s conditions were some of the worst I’ve experienced and visibility was nearly zero before the race was stopped. It was much better when the race resumed but I had issues with the car’s balance on the intermediates so I just tried to stay in the points and keep Vergne behind. »
Robert Fernley – Deputy Team Principal
Today’s result is due to a great team effort. It was a particularly lively race from the pit wall, but overall I think we made the right choices, especially switching to slick tires, and both drivers delivered very strong performances. It was important to score points on a day like this given our starting position on the grid; we should be happy with eight points.
