Saturday: Marussia continues its progress

The two drivers of the Marussia team qualified in the same positions as in Melbourne, but the gap has narrowed compared to the competition. The race still holds some unknowns, notably with the weather and tire uncertainty as Timo Glock experienced some problems with the Mediums today.

Saturday: Marussia continues its progress

Timo Glock – 22nd and 21st

« It was a difficult day for me. The car was very good this morning with the Hards and I had a good feeling, so I was convinced that our stint with the Mediums during free practice 3 would allow us to be even faster. But for some reasons, I struggled a lot with these tires, like yesterday, and I lost the balance of the car. I was slower with the Mediums compared to others, so I was a bit surprised. I managed to do two good laps but I didn’t really have confidence. I made two small mistakes which cost me one or two tenths. The team did a great job again this weekend and we haven’t had any technical problems so far, so we’ll see how it goes for the race tomorrow. »

Charles Pic – 21st and 22nd

« For me, it was a good qualifying session and another good day overall. I’m a bit closer to Timo than in Australia and that’s the best target I have now. I think there are still a few tenths to find, but overall it’s a positive step. I think it will be a tough race tomorrow; today we only did a few laps, whereas tomorrow we will do 56. The weather is still uncertain as well, so I think it will be interesting for everyone. The team did a good job considering the conditions. »

John Booth – Team Principal

«It has been another encouraging day for us because we can take away positives from what we have seen so far and motivation from the signs of our progress. Even though our qualifying positions haven’t changed, the developments added to the car yesterday have allowed us to reduce the gap to the leaders and our closest rivals. We are touching wood as we haven’t had any issues with the cars yet, which has allowed us to cover the planned program and make the same progress for the race as in Melbourne. The qualifying revealed many different tire strategies, and the race should offer some surprises. We still don’t know what our strategy will be at the start, and we will take some time to evaluate all our options for tomorrow. »
