Saturday: Points objective for Sauber

The objective of the Sauber team was to place a driver in Q3 today and the goal was achieved by Sergio Pérez. The Mexican driver hopes to take advantage of his position on the grid to score points in the race tomorrow. Kamui Kobayashi was hoping for better on his part, but starting from 17th, he is not very optimistic about the race.

Saturday: Points objective for Sauber

Sergio Pérez – 12th and 10th

I’m very happy to have been able to qualify in Q3. Considering the balance issues we had yesterday and that we haven’t fully understood, it has been a nice reward for the team. I also think our car is better in race conditions than in qualifying, so we should have good potential for tomorrow’s race. For some reason, it’s difficult to find grip with the Medium tires, but the modifications made after free practice have somewhat helped. It will be a difficult race tomorrow for the car, the tires, and the drivers. I will fight and try to score as many points as possible.

Kamui Kobayashi – 10th and 17th

There was no particular problem on my last Q1 run like traffic or mistakes, but I simply couldn’t find the grip with the Mediums. We had big issues with the car’s balance yesterday, but for FP3 this morning it was better. However, the changes made for qualifying apparently didn’t go in the right direction. As for the race, I can say that the track itself is not bad for overtaking but I’m not sure we will have enough top speed.

Peter Sauber – Team Principal

It’s good that Sergio is in the top 10. Our goal is to have at least one car in Q3, and looking at our rivals, I know it’s very ambitious. Kamui was very strong during the three practice sessions, but he didn’t manage to capitalize on it for qualifying. We need to find out why. The race will be very difficult, so there are many unknowns.
