Friday: the Lotus E20 provides satisfaction
Variable weather conditions greeted Kimi Räikkönen and Romain Grosjean today for the first free practice sessions at the Albert Park circuit.
Kimi Räikkönen: 9th and 18th
« Because of the weather, we couldn’t learn much today, but it’s the same for everyone. During the first session, we tried a different steering column. It would have been nice to run with it, but we knew the basic system would be better. The setup we have now works well. It might take a little time to make it perfect, but we’ll try to get the most out of it. I hope the weather will be more conducive tomorrow and that we’ll be more cheerful after the qualifications. I didn’t push very hard today. If it’s dry tomorrow, we’ll have a better idea of what we need to do. »
Romain Grosjean: 16th and 14th
« We waited for the moment when we could go out with slick tires since the forecast predicts dry weather for the rest of the weekend. There’s no point in taking unnecessary risks. The E20 responds well and I am pleased with its balance. This afternoon, I learned the circuit and focused on improving my times with each lap. It required a bit of patience, but we managed to complete some good laps in the end, which will be beneficial. The circuit is fantastic and the ever-changing scenery around the park is incredible. I feel comfortable and confident in the car and I’m really looking forward to the qualifying. »
