Friday: Mercedes starts the weekend well
Mercedes AMG has continually emphasized throughout the winter that the F1 W03 represents a significant step forward for the team, which needed to improve compared to the previous two seasons. In light of the initial tests at the Australian Grand Prix, the silver single-seater could well join the battle for major points on Sunday, even though the drivers are playing it safe.
Michael Schumacher: 3rd and 1st
« Today was a good start to what will hopefully be an exciting season. However, I won’t speak too confidently given that the conditions were too variable to get an accurate idea of the hierarchy. We know what Friday testing is for, and we don’t know the fuel quantities of the others. On the other hand, it’s good to see that we are competitive in different circumstances and that the car is performing well. »
Nico Rosberg: 6th and 9th
« I am happy with the start of our weekend in these conditions. We learned a lot for the race here in Melbourne during both sessions, so it was a very positive day. I feel comfortable in the car, which is the most important thing for me today. Everything went well and we had no surprises, however, knowing where we really stand compared to others is impossible in these conditions. Therefore, I am looking forward to the next two days. »
