Ecclestone discusses Schumacher, Hamilton, and Bahrain

Bernie Ecclestone confided yesterday that he would like to see Michael Schumacher take the wheel of a Red Bull to assess the potential of the German driver in a good car. He also hopes that the seven-time world champion will be able to have a good 2012 season driving his Mercedes AMG F1 W03.

« It would be nice, wouldn’t it, if he (Schumacher) did it (succeed in a good 2012 season). I would like to see him in a good single-seater. I would like to see him in the second Red Bull. I don’t think it would bother Sebastian (Vettel), » said Bernie Ecclestone, quoted by Reuters.

The boss of FOM also revealed that even though he wanted to place Schumacher in Mark Webber’s seat, he had nothing against the Australian driver. He would just like to have an idea of the Red Baron’s competitiveness.

I’m just saying that it would be nice to see him (Schumacher) in the car where you know that if he doesn’t win, it’s his fault and not the car’s fault.

Bernie Ecclestone also spoke about Lewis Hamilton, with whom he recently discussed and found more focused than last season. He expects a great season from the 2008 world champion, otherwise, he might be tempted to leave McLaren according to him.

I think that if he (Hamilton) doesn’t achieve great things this year, he might be tempted to look elsewhere and the team (McLaren) might also want to see him move on.

The 81-year-old Briton also wanted to remind everyone that the Formula One Circus would indeed go to Bahrain this season, unlike in 2011. He was more than confident about the staging of the 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix.

« No one is saying that we are not going to go there or that we do not want to go there. Everyone is very positive. I told all the teams that there is not the slightest problem, I am absolutely sure, 100% that we will go there and that there will be no problem, » added Ecclestone.
