Ecclestone: F1 will go to Bahrain in 2012

Despite some uncertainties regarding the organization of the race and recent clashes between protesters and the police in Bahrain, Bernie Ecclestone stated that the Grand Prix scheduled for April 22 would go ahead as planned. The FOM boss is convinced that, unlike in 2011, the race will indeed take place.

“We planned to go there. People seem confident everything will go well for the race that is set to take place in two months,” Bernie Ecclestone told The Telegraph.

«The teams are not worried at all. They seem pleased that things will go off without a hitch. Last year, we made a clearer decision not to go, but things have changed since. »

The 2011 Bahrain Grand Prix was initially postponed following protests from the people. The race was ultimately canceled altogether.

Despite recent clashes – described by Ecclestone as problems between children and the police – and a request for the cancellation of the race made by some British MPs, Bernie Ecclestone stated that politics do not factor into the decision of whether or not to go to Bahrain. The decision regarding the Grand Prix will only be based on one criterion: safety.

«We have always been apolitical. Any decision will be made based on safety criteria, » added Ecclestone.
