Mercedes wants to extend Schumacher’s contract
The head of Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes, stated in the German press that he would like to see Michael Schumacher extend his contract with Mercedes AMG beyond 2012.
Dieter Zesche, the head of Daimler, stated in the German press that he hopes to see Michael Schumacher extend his contract with the Mercedes AMG team beyond 2012. The seven-time German world champion had signed a contract for two years plus an option for one more when he returned in 2010.
Without a contract for 2013 at the moment, there are still strong chances to see Michael Schumacher continue the F1 adventure. In any case, Zetsche has stated that he would like to continue the collaboration with the German driver. He told the Süddeutsche Zeitung that extending Schumacher’s contract was an interesting opportunity for the 2013 season. He also noted that despite a mixed comeback, Schumacher remains an icon in motorsport.
Mercedes returned as a constructor in F1 in 2010 – like Schumacher, following the acquisition of the Brawn GP team. And despite results falling short of expectations, Dieter Zetsche stated that Mercedes had no intention of withdrawing. On the contrary, the star brand is committed for the long term in F1, according to him.
