At the start of the 2012 season, the Formula One teams unpack their bags in Andalusia, at the Jerez circuit, for the first four days of private testing of the season. It’s an opportunity for all Formula One enthusiasts to see the 2012 cars in action, to discover the new Pirelli tires, and to get accustomed, as with every new school year, to the new faces.

Highlights of the third day of testing in Jerez:
09:54: Red flag: off-track excursion for Jules Bianchi. The Force India is slightly damaged but had not gone back on track at the beginning of the afternoon. The driver is unharmed.
10:25 AM: Suffering from a hydraulic issue, Alonso is stuck in the pits. The repair will take nearly two hours. The Spaniard returned to the track at 12:26 PM.
10:29 AM: Romain Grosjean sets the fastest time of the morning and also the fastest time for a 2012 car so far with 1:18.419, ahead of Hamilton by one second. He is a tenth faster than Schumacher, with the 2011 Mercedes W02, during the second day of testing.
12:48: Nico Rosberg, driving the W02, sets the fastest lap of the day and of the testing so far with a time of 1:17.613.
1:20 PM: Fernando Alonso returns to the track after Ferrari repaired the hydraulic failure that was hampering the F2012.
2:28 PM: Sauber has set about changing the oil filter of Perez’s C31 gearbox. Expected to be back on track at 3:00 PM!
2:58 PM: Force India ends their test day following Bianchi’s accident. They lack parts to complete the repairs on the VJM05.
3:39 PM: red flag: off-track excursion for Giedo Van der Garde. He is fine. The Caterham is not too damaged. The CT01 returns to the track at 4:43 PM.
4:50 PM: new red flag. Grosjean’s Lotus appears to be out of fuel between turns 3 and 4.
