Turvey tested the McLaren MP4-27
Oliver Turvey, McLaren test driver, became the first driver yesterday to test the MP4-27 during a trial conducted in Spain.
Oliver Turvey, one of the two test and reserve drivers for the McLaren Mercedes team alongside Gary Paffett, conducted tests yesterday at the wheel of the MP4-27, the British team’s 2012 car.
The young Briton, aged 24, was the first to test the new single-seater produced by the Woking factory. This test took place in Spain before the official start of pre-season testing, which begins on Tuesday in Jerez.
“It was an incredible honor to be the first person to drive the McLaren MP4-27 today (Saturday), I really enjoyed every moment,” Oliver Turvey shared on his Twitter account.
“It went well for a first day! It was an incredible experience to drive the new car. It’s hard to know how good the performance will be before being on the track in Jerez next week,” the Briton added.
The MP4-27 will now be tested by the team’s two main drivers, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton. In Jerez, Button will drive his new car on Tuesday and Wednesday, then it will be Hamilton’s turn to do so on Thursday and Friday.
