Grosjean: “Appreciate my passion to the fullest”
In 2012, he will begin his first full season in Formula 1. Since his first stint in F1 in 2009, the driver has matured and intends to make the most of this new opportunity in the premier category of motorsport.
Just like his teammate, 2012 marks a return to F1 for Romain Grosjean, who had already driven for this team, then called Renault, in 2009, replacing Nelson Piquet Jr who was let go mid-season. Against Fernando Alonso, the young man had not underperformed, but his performances were not considered strong enough to be retained for the following season. It is therefore a sort of comeback for Grosjean to return to F1 two seasons later.
« I’ve been living a waking dream since I got this seat. It’s a fantastic emotion and also a fantastic challenge. I believe the team has a good pair of drivers this year with Kimi and me. I hope we can achieve something special. I think I’ll only really realize it when I see my name on the entry list in Melbourne. For now, I’m really happy to be at the factory as often as possible, to be involved with the team, and to prepare for the tests, » says Grosjean on the English team’s website.
Unlike in 2009, the new GP2 Series champion will have plenty of time to prepare by participating in the winter testing sessions starting Tuesday in Jérez. Not to mention that the driver has matured since his first appearance in the discipline.
Compared to 2009, I’m two years older! Not a big difference, just an improvement on several details, including maturity. 2009 helped me a lot to understand things and grow. It was tough, but there were also some really good moments. Romain Grosjean sees life a little differently. My goal is to fully enjoy my number one passion, Formula 1.
Just like Kimi Räikkönen, with whom he will team up, Romain Grosjean wants to give his best throughout the season and hopes that the new E20 will allow him to achieve some good results.
« Formula 1 is a big, big challenge in itself. But I think the most important thing, personally, will be to give 100% of my abilities and those of the car, on every occasion. Without making mistakes. That’s the life of a Formula 1 driver. You have to extract 100% from the machine, stay focused, and progress lap after lap. I hope we will have a good car from the start of the season, ambition for the first race, and that we can develop throughout the year, » hopes Grosjean.
