Charlie Whiting could be present at Jerez

For several days, Formula 1 teams have begun unveiling their cars for 2012. These are being closely watched by fans, journalists, and naturally, engineers from other teams. The FIA could also join the fray.

The rules have changed somewhat for 2012, with notably a new height limit for the front wing and especially the ban on blown diffusers. The governing body has therefore decided to send Charlie Whiting, its technical delegate, to check the legality of the various 2012 cars that will be present in Jerez.

Indeed, some teams have not fully unveiled their 2012 cars, notably Ferrari and McLaren, who had placed a cover over the diffuser – probably to try to conceal a potential innovation.

Moreover, some teams have reportedly decided to interpret the new rules at the borderline of being regulatory, prompting the FIA to declare the cars valid or not to prevent any issues once the season started.

«There are reports saying that (Charlie) Whiting might go to Jerez next week due to concerns about the design of the new cars,» explains Tom Cary in The Telegraph.
