Buemi will indeed be the 3rd Red Bull driver in 2012

The information had leaked in the Swiss press for a few days already and Red Bull Racing has just confirmed it: Sébastien Buemi will indeed be the third driver for the world champion team in 2012.

Evicted from Toro Rosso on December 14th, the Swiss therefore remains in the Red Bull galaxy and will be called to replace Vettel or Webber if one of them is unable to participate in a Grand Prix. Buemi will also be likely to replace one of the two Toro Rosso drivers.

« It’s good to stay with Red Bull for another year and have this opportunity with the world champion team, » declares Buemi.

« I would have obviously preferred to race, but working with Red Bull Racing on the development of their car and providing them with feedback throughout the season is a good thing. »

A starting driver position that may be awarded to him in 2013 if Mark Webber’s contract is not renewed. The Australian has only a one-year contract with the energy drink brand.

For Christian Horner, Sébastien Buemi’s commitment to his team was entirely logical.

It was logical for Sébastien to continue with Red Bull after being a member of the junior team since 2004. He already knows the team well since he was already with us in 2008 and he has gained racing experience over the last three seasons.

He will do testing and simulator work for us throughout the year and will be present at the Grand Prix with us.
