Hill believes that Räikkönen can still win the championship

Since the announcement of Kimi Räikkönen’s return to Formula 1 next season, everyone has had their say about the former world champion’s future performance. After Gerhard Berger yesterday, who believed that the Finn should get a grip by reducing, notably, his vodka consumption, it’s Damon Hill’s turn to comment on Iceman’s comeback. And the 1996 world champion is much more optimistic than his Austrian colleague.

For Hill, Räikkönen can still win several world titles. He has already won a world title, and I entered F1 at his age; he clearly still has the capability to win more titles, states Damon Hill, adding that at 32 years old, the Finnish driver’s return should not be too difficult.

« It’s great and I wish him good luck. He will have to show that he still has what it takes, and he has a good team to do it. Plus, he is still young, » explained the Briton to Autosport.

In this interview with Autosport, Hill also mentioned the 2012 season, which he hopes will be closer than the previous one.

« We want to see someone shake up the established order even if I think Adrian [Newey], Sebastian [Vettel], Mark [Webber], and Red Bull Racing make a great team at the front and they seem to be having fun. A battle between three top teams would be fantastic. »

We’ll have to wait a little longer to see if Red Bull will dominate the championship again like they did in 2011 or if another team will regularly compete for victory. The first private tests will be held from February 7th at the Spanish circuit of Jerez. Before that, most teams will present their new cars.
