Senna relies on his experience for 2012
Suspended by Lotus Renault GP, Bruno Senna hopes that the experience he gained with the team during the second part of the season will allow him to secure a seat in F1 next season.
Bruno Senna is among the drivers who will spend the end-of-year holidays without knowing what 2012 will hold. Called to replace Nick Heidfeld in the middle of last season, the Brazilian has not entirely convinced the LRGP management to maintain their confidence in him for 2012.
Even though he was hoping to continue with Lotus next year, Senna was not really surprised by the team’s decision to prefer Romain Grosjean to support Kimi Räikkönen.
« Obviously it’s disappointing not to be a part of it because the team has potential, but we weren’t particularly surprised. We were already looking elsewhere, knowing that this seat wasn’t guaranteed. »
Nevertheless, Ayrton Senna’s nephew does not regret stepping into the R31 at short notice and believes that this experience could tip the balance when it comes to signing a future contract.
“It was a great opportunity because before that the only memories I had left were those from 2010. Today, my image has improved, and I am in a much better position than last year, even though I don’t have a seat yet,” emphasizes the Brazilian driver.
Senna stated earlier this week that he was in negotiations with Franck Williams’ team for the next season. There is no doubt that the Williams-Renault-Senna association will revive certain memories for many Formula 1 enthusiasts around the world.
And if by chance the doors of F1 were to close, the Brazilian would consider a switch to the American NASCAR championship where he would reunite with another Brazilian driver, Nelson Piquet Jr.
