Button wants to beat Red Bull in 2012
The 2011 vice world champion hopes that McLaren will provide him with a car capable of competing more frequently for victories in 2012.
Author of a very successful 2011 season that saw him finish in second place behind Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button aims higher for the next season and intends to give the Red Bull drivers a tough time.
« We didn’t win the championship in the last two seasons, but I have won some races with the team and I think our time will come, » declares the 2009 world champion.
« We are in a very good position. It couldn’t be better, so we are looking forward to 2012. »
When he joined McLaren in 2010, many people thought he was making the wrong choice by wanting to compete with Lewis Hamilton within a team that was 100% devoted to him. However, after two seasons with the team, his record is rather flattering. Far from being outclassed in 2010, Button took the upper hand over his young teammate this season by demonstrating greater maturity and consistency.
« We have spent two years together now. My goal was to manage to win races with McLaren and to be with a team that would allow me to win the world championship, » explains Button.
I believe we have really improved, and I think that with a little more improvement we can fight more often for victory in 2012.
Here is Red Bull Racing warned. McLaren will present its new single-seater on February 1st before heading to Jerez for the first private tests of the year.
