Montezemolo would be delighted with Räikkönen’s return
As the official announcement of Kimi Räikkönen's return to F1 could take place next weekend, Luca di Montezemolo says he is delighted with this possible comeback and recalls his collaboration with the Finnish champion.
There has been a lot of talk about Kimi Räikkönen in recent weeks. Indeed, the Finnish driver is expected to make his return to F1 next season with Williams. This potential comeback is a hot topic in the paddock, and Luca di Montezemolo couldn’t ignore it.
« The fact that he might come back makes me feel good, » states the head of Scuderia in the daily La Stampa.
We still remember that the Italian had shown the door to the Finn in 2009 to better accommodate Fernando Alonso in the 2010 car and that the relations between Montezemolo and his driver were not always smooth during their three years of collaboration.
« Kimi is someone very nice even though I have never managed to communicate correctly with him, » acknowledges Luca di Montezemolo.
It is true that Räikkönen does not have the reputation of being particularly talkative in the Formula 1 environment. What annoys him the most is undoubtedly the handling of the press, whom he did not hesitate to criticize a few weeks ago. “As early as last year, I had the impression that the rally press was more interested in the discipline and what happens on the stages, rather than the F1 journalists who write nonsense to make headlines,” said the Finn.
Despite this, Kimi Räikkönen remains very popular with fans of the sport, and Luca di Montezemolo may have an explanation.
« There are a few drivers like him with the flame of speed burning inside them, like Jean Alesi who will compete in the Indianapolis 500 next year, » explains Montezemolo.
The president of Ferrari also wanted to put an end to the rumors announcing Nico Rosberg in red as soon as next year, replacing Felipe Massa. « Our drivers are Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, » he insists.
