In the end, we did what we had to do. The team did a great job with the strategy, and I pushed hard to close the gap, but it wasn’t an easy weekend for me. Regarding the tires, it was a bit strange: on one hand, it was good because we could do long stints without any degradation, but on the other hand, they weren’t at their best at the start of the race and for the qualifiers.

Generally speaking, I think we can all be happy with where we ended up today.

Timo Glock – Retirement

« Another unlucky day after a disappointing qualifying yesterday. I entered turn 1 from the outside, and all of a sudden I saw pieces of carbon flying everywhere. I braked a little later than usual and, when I turned, suddenly Kamui Kobayashi ran into me and I couldn’t avoid him. My front wing was damaged so I had to come in to change it and we realized that we had quite a bit of damage on the left side of the car and decided to stop there. »

« After a difficult start to the weekend, everything ended well in the final laps of this incredible circuit, when our strategy paid off for Jerome. During our preparation, we analyzed that a handful of laps on hard tires would be the way to go, although, in race conditions, it can sometimes be nervously difficult to maintain. Nevertheless, the engineers chose and applied the best option. Jerome did a great job from start to finish to ensure we maintained the necessary gap while he still had the benefit of the soft tires.

However, the weekend continued to be frustrating for Timo. He showed good things on Friday, but since then he simply hasn’t had the opportunity to show what he can do. I have no doubt that he will be able to put these difficulties behind him by Abu Dhabi. Jerome’s result is a good reward for the efforts of the team here and at the factory, where the week will be busy preparing for the next race.
