Karthikeyan will replace Liuzzi in India
While Daniel Ricciardo was expected to give up his place to Narain Karthikeyan for the upcoming Indian Grand Prix, it will ultimately be Vitantonio Liuzzi who steps down.
At the beginning of October, Daniel Ricciardo stated to Press Trust of India that he would be happy to give up his place to Narain Karthikeyan, specifying that when it’s part of the contract and agreement, you stick to it. Furthermore, the statements from Vitantonio Liuzzi’s manager, who assured that his driver had a contract to compete in all the races of the season, were in line with the replacement of the Australian driver by Karthikeyan.
And yet, it will indeed be Vitantonio Liuzzi who will give up his seat for the first Indian Grand Prix, held at the Buddh circuit: « For this event alone, Narain will be alongside Daniel Ricciardo. I asked Tonio Liuzzi to step aside for the Indian Grand Prix to allow Ricciardo and Karthikeyan to complete their programs. I must thank Tonio for his approach and professional attitude » explains Colin Kolles.
The Romanian also believes that his team will feel at home in New Delhi: « Having Narain Karthikeyan, the first Indian driver in the history of F1, and Tata with us gives us the impression of racing at home. Narain is a talented driver and we are proud to make our way with him. »
On his side, the Indian driver considers himself lucky and expects an unreal experience in front of his audience: the experience of a lifetime, he assures.
