Saturday: Red Bull remains unbeaten by 9 thousandths!
It was thought that McLaren would be a formidable opponent this Saturday afternoon, and that was the case, except it is once again Red Bull and Vettel who emerge victorious from this duel by just 9 thousandths of a second. Vettel is obviously thrilled with this new pole position, while Mark Webber is disappointed to be only on the third row of the grid tomorrow.
Sebastian Vettel – 3rd and 1st:
« I went out yesterday and damaged the front wing, so it wasn’t ideal for preparing the car for today. We struggled a bit this morning with the balance of the car and we were too slow. We sat down after FP3 and looked at what we could improve and we were able to extract the maximum from the car in qualifying, which was crucial. »
« There is not much between me and Jenson! I want to thank the team and the factory for giving me another front row seat, I wouldn’t be sitting there without them, so I am very happy and very proud. I don’t care about scoring a point or not scoring points tomorrow. I had a warning yesterday for a small moment of inattention and lost control of the car. Tomorrow will be a long race and it’s a challenge. We really love to come here, it’s a special atmosphere and the fans are so passionate and crazy. When we leave the hotel in the morning, there are plenty of people shouting and it’s a nice feeling to be a part of that and starting from pole tomorrow will be special. It’s a long race and anything can happen. »
Mark Webber – 5th and 6th:
« I am very surprised to be sixth. I did my best but I wasn’t fast enough. Seb did an incredible lap for pole. I am disappointed to be on the third row. The car was good yesterday on the long runs as well as the shorter runs, so I clearly didn’t use the car’s full potential today. I will wake up and do better tomorrow. »
Christian Horner – Team Principal:
« A phenomenal qualifying session. It was really tight with an incredible last lap from Sebastian. It was close with the McLarens all weekend and he put in a remarkable last lap to take pole by 9 thousandths. This shows the hard work being done here and at the factory after one of our new front wings was damaged yesterday. »
« Mark was climbing in his last lap and was faster in the first sector but then he was not able to improve in the last two. Hopefully, he can make progress from his position tomorrow. »
