Saturday: Mercedes GP expects an interesting race
It's unclear what to expect at Mercedes GP after the qualifying session for the Japanese Grand Prix. Michael Schumacher is pleased with his position on the grid and hopes for a good race on this track he enjoys. On the other side of the garage, Nico Rosberg didn't have the opportunity to defend his chances as he was forced to return to the pits after his installation lap in Q1 due to hydraulic issues. The young German driver will start 23rd tomorrow, but that doesn't stop him from having a sense of humor.
Michael Schumacher – 7th and 7th:
« It was a difficult end to the session today, but at least we saved a set of tires for the race tomorrow. We are in a good position to score big points, and that’s obviously what I’m aiming for. I’m very happy with the work the team has done to improve our performance this weekend, and I’m looking forward to the race on this great circuit, which is one of my favorites. »
Nico Rosberg – 8th and 23rd:
« In my first run in Q1, the team informed me that I had a problem and asked me to return to the box. We tried to fix it in time to allow me to do a timed lap, but the hydraulic system is complicated and there simply wasn’t enough time. I have a promising strategy for the race with all the new tires I have! Seriously, I’ll try to push to get into the top 10. That will be my goal tomorrow. »
Ross Brawn – Team Principal:
« It’s a mixed qualifying session for us today. We had a hydraulic problem with Nico’s car at the start of Q1, which we now need to analyze. It will be a challenge for him to start at the back of the grid, but it will be an interesting race given the situation with the tires, so there could be opportunities.
« Michael had a good session even if the end of Q3 wasn’t as good as we would have wanted. It should be a good race, and I look forward to seeing what Michael and Nico can do.
