Kovalainen will not participate in the meeting about Hamilton
The Team Lotus driver and former teammate of Lewis Hamilton claims to have no problem with the 2008 world champion.
The case of Lewis Hamilton, which has been the subject of debate for many months and resurfaced after the Singapore Grand Prix, is expected to continue to be a talking point in Suzuka where, according to Autosprint, some drivers have allegedly requested that Charlie Whiting, the race director, include it on the agenda for discussion during the drivers’ briefing that traditionally precedes each Grand Prix.
However, this request does not seem to gain unanimous support among the drivers, as evidenced by a tweet from Heikki Kovalainen, former teammate of the McLaren driver in 2008 and 2009: « Will all the drivers attend a special meeting in Suzuka about Hamilton’s driving? Not me, I have no problem. »
For once, Martin Whitmarsh distinguished himself as the most ardent defender of his driver: « Lewis is probably an aggressive driver, but he knows how to use his head. The accusations against him are unfair. He is young and still has things to learn, but rest assured, he will win other championships. »
Before the Singapore Grand Prix, the Team Principal had praised his protégé’s driving in Monza, while regretting that the Briton is currently not at his best: « Lewis is quite relaxed and I think he is very determined. He had a tough season, and he did everything he could to stay out of trouble [in Monza]. I told him it was disciplined driving, but I would like the old Lewis to be back. »
Still, Lewis Hamilton was once again penalized for a collision in Singapore, and he seemed frustrated by the situation as shown in the video summary of the Grand Prix published on the Formula One website, where you can hear the McLaren driver say in a resigned tone, as he returns to the pits to serve his penalty: “Of course, I have a drive through!”
