Friday: Schumacher brings smiles to Mercedes GP
First average day for Mercedes GP. Michael Schumacher achieved a very nice third fastest time this afternoon, but Nico Rosberg experienced KERS issues and only finished 22nd. This morning the result was not much more positive for the young German who ended the session in 18th position, while Schumacher just missed out on the top 10. Nevertheless, both drivers are satisfied with their day and hope to have a good session tomorrow.
Michael Schumacher – 11th and 3rd:
« It’s always a special feeling to be here at Monza. It started yesterday when I did my lap of the circuit, I saw the tifosis and enjoyed the unique atmosphere of this track. Then getting in the car today, it’s nice to feel the fans, it reminds me of my home race. In terms of the track’s character, we are generally good with the brakes and traction and there aren’t so many high and medium-speed corners where we haven’t been very good this year. It seems good if we look at my position today and I’m happy with that, but we’ll only really know tomorrow where we stand. »
Nico Rosberg – 18th and 22nd:
« I didn’t have an ideal session this afternoon since we had issues, especially with the KERS, at the start of the session. However, by the end of the day, we learned quite a bit for the race, and the most important thing is that I was able to enjoy the track. Monza is a very different circuit with high-speed sectors and low-downforce corners, and it takes a bit of time to find the right rhythm. »
