Alesi happy with the France/Belgium alternation project
The ambassador of Lotus Cars claims that alternation is a good compromise for everyone.
As the French Grand Prix might make its return around 2013, at the Circuit Paul Ricard which was the venue for its Formula One debut in 1989, Jean Alesi welcomes the prospect of alternating with the Belgian Grand Prix relatively enthusiastically. « The drivers have a lot of fun at Spa and I think it is very important that we continue to race here because of the spectacle, the history, and so on, but the problem is money. Spa cannot compete with places like Abu Dhabi. It would be such a shame to lose Spa but I would say it’s better to go to Spa every two years than not to go at all, » states the Avignon native on the official Lotus Cars website.
Remarks that echo those of Etienne Davignon, president of the company Spa Grand Prix, for whom this is a solution that constitutes progress compared to not having it anymore, so let’s stop whining about what we prefer and can’t afford. A few years ago, it was established that it would be over, today it’s not over and we say it’s not enough.
For Jean Alesi, the alternation constitutes a compromise that would be good for everyone: As a Frenchman, and proud to be one, I would love to see the French Grand Prix return and, by sharing a spot on the calendar, we could maintain both events and ensure their longevity.
