Saturday: Toro Rosso in Q3 for the first time since China

With his 6th place secured on the starting grid in the Ardennes, Jaime Alguersuari achieves his best career qualifications and the best for the Italian team since the Brazilian Grand Prix in 2009. The small Scuderia even has the luxury of outpacing its main competitors in the world championship and hopes to capitalize in the race.

Saturday: Toro Rosso in Q3 for the first time since China

Jaime Alguersuari – 3rd and 6th

« This is my best qualifying performance and the best for the team this season. I am very happy about it and also because my teammate was very close to making it to Q3, which shows that we have done a very good job, not only on the car but also in the way we managed the session, being the first out of the pits to have a clear track.

The weather helped us because the car works very well with intermediate and rain tires, but we were also fast on a dry track.

We knew we had a better car here than in Hungary and we’ve learned a lot so far this weekend.

The DRS now functions better than ever.

With some luck, tomorrow I could once again do a good job and score a few more points. I think we have a good chance of making it if we stay calm because our car has a good pace.

The start of the third row will be very important and can be tricky so I hope the weather will be nice.

Sebastien Buemi – 6th and 11th

« It wasn’t easy this afternoon because the track was drying very quickly after the rain stopped falling. However, you have to set the best time at the right moment. I managed to do that until the end when I made a small mistake. I’m a bit hard on myself for that, but 11th place is still a good place to start the race tomorrow.

I think we’ve reached a good compromise in terms of race settings. In any case, the team seems to have made great strides in terms of performance, so I hope to translate that into the race, because it’s tomorrow when the points are distributed.

Giorgio Ascanelli, Team Principal

« It’s Jaime’s best qualifying. Our good overall result with both cars is due to all the work we have done this weekend, even if we must accept that the two Force India cars and Michael Schumacher should have been ahead of us today. However, it is also true that our drivers did not make the slightest mistake and therefore deserve this result.

I’m sorry for Sébastien, whose only mistake so far came during the lap that mattered, in Q2. Otherwise, he could have been able to fight in Q3.

The best indication that our car has improved thanks to the various enhancements we’ve made here is the fact that we are slightly better than Sauber, both on dry and wet tracks.

For the first time this season, we have made progress with our DRS thanks to our aero team who have worked in this area.

As for the race, […] it could be confusing, and we must try to avoid making mistakes to capitalize on our good qualification.

I would like to express all my sympathy for Michael, a friend and a legend, because he is going to have a hard time celebrating his 20th anniversary tomorrow. Then, great work from Bruno Senna: seeing a yellow helmet in a black and gold car at Spa, it’s…
