Friday: Mercedes shines before falling back in line
After taking advantage of a few rain-free minutes in the morning to set the two best times, the Mercedes drivers fell back in line this afternoon. Michael Schumacher, marking the 20th anniversary of his career, wanted to remind everyone of his legacy and is wearing a golden helmet for the occasion.
Nico Rosberg – 2nd and 6th
« It was quite difficult today in the typical Spa conditions, but we managed to have two good practice sessions. We learned several things both in the dry and the wet, and managed to do some tests for the race and qualifying, so I feel rather positive for tomorrow. »
Michael Schumacher – 1st and 11th
« It was a special feeling to be on the track today for the first practice session of my birthday weekend at Spa. A lot has changed here in the last twenty years, but certainly not the weather. Today was another typical Spa day, with changing conditions and very little dry running. The conditions mean we can’t do much setup work although we used the maximum possible time when the track was dry. So, it’s going to be tricky to find a compromise for Sunday, knowing that the weather here is always so unpredictable. »
