Alonso: “D’Ambrosio is doing a good job”

On the occasion of this Belgian Grand Prix, there is of course a lot of talk about Michael Schumacher’s 20-year career, which began on August 25, 1991, but it’s also the home Grand Prix of Jérôme D’Ambrosio. It had been 17 years since a Belgian driver was last behind the wheel of an F1 car in the Belgian Ardennes, so naturally, there’s a bit more focus on him than usual for this 12th round of the season.

Asked about his thoughts on the Belgian driver’s performances, Fernando Alonso gave a rather positive assessment: “I think he’s doing a good job. Virgin is not very competitive this year. It was perhaps more competitive last year. But when you start in Formula 1, you have to finish races, try to beat your teammate, and do the best you can. I think that’s what Jérôme is doing. Hopefully, he will have a better car in the future,” the Spanish champion responded to journalists present in the Spa paddock.

Jérôme D’Ambrosio hopes to have a great race for his home Grand Prix. Being at home can be an extra motivation to find 1 or 2 tenths in qualifying, explained the local on the air of RTBF (Belgian television channel) last night.

Jérôme D’Ambrosio, who has not yet been confirmed alongside Timo Glock for next year. Discussions are taking place between Gravity Management and the team on this topic.
