Schumacher will continue with Mercedes in 2012

After everything and its opposite has been said about Michael Schumacher’s future in Formula One, and more specifically about his supposed intentions to end his career at the end of this season, even though his contract runs until the end of 2012, the man himself has been forced to set the record straight: “Despite some funny rumors and unfounded and stupid stories, I keep repeating that you will see me in 2012,” confided the seven-time world champion at an event organized by Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart to celebrate 125 years of the Automobile.

« I’ll be there and the good thing is that I have a lot of support from everywhere, especially from the company and notably from the team, they all want me to be there and I want to be there. I’m looking forward to it » continues the German enthusiastically, even if, within his own team, there have been comments suggesting the possibility of the German’s retirement, even from Ross Brawn himself.

The Kaiser, however, remains somewhat fatalistic about the 2012 season for the Mercedes team, even as Ross Brawn has been given a free hand to strengthen the technical team: « It would be presumptuous to hope to fight for the title next year: at the moment, we are too far behind. »

The Mercedes driver, who had already mentioned the possibility of continuing beyond 2012, still leaves the door open even though he defines the conditions that need to be met for this: “We will have to see how things develop and if the energy and enjoyment are still there.”

Some, however, no longer hesitate to look for a replacement for Michael Schumacher, just in case, you never know: « Not that I want to force Michael to retire, but when he decides to do so, whether it’s this year or next year, Paul [di Resta] has a good relationship with Mercedes » explains David Coulthard on stv.tv, adding that it would be « undoubtedly, the ideal scenario » according to him.

« Of course, Force India deserves to be a winning team in the future, but realistically, Paul di Resta will have to make tough decisions and quickly find himself in the best possible car » concluded the Scot.
