F1 will also be played on Wii U
Absent in 2010 and 2011, F1 is expected to make its return on a Nintendo console in 2012.
The last E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) held at the beginning of June was an opportunity for Nintendo to introduce the successor to the Wii, the Wii U. This new console will benefit from the playability of the Wii since the Wiimote and Nunchuk will still be part of the package. The new weapon from the Japanese manufacturer will also feature a controller-tablet equipped with a 15.75 cm touchscreen.
The switch to HD will allow the machine to host numerous multiplatform games. Games like Batman Arkham City and Assassin’s Creed have, for instance, been announced. It will also be an opportunity for F1 to make its return to the plumber’s brand.
In an interview with the English magazine MCV, Rod Cousens, CEO of Codemasters, indeed stated that an F1 game was planned for the Wii U. In 2009, the Wii had the honor of hosting the first Codemasters-branded F1 game. While the graphics were clearly not the strong point of the software, the gameplay was flawless and particularly enjoyable, even though F1 2009 leaned heavily towards the arcade side.
No release date has been announced, but since Nintendo’s console is not expected on shelves before 2012, it is very likely that the game F1 2012 will be adapted for the Wii U. Stay tuned.
