After Bruno Senna, the Franco-Swiss driver might in turn have the honor of driving the R31 during the Singapore Grand Prix Free Practice.

Grosjean could replace Heidfeld in Singapore

While Nick Heidfeld had to give up his seat to Bruno Senna during the first free practice session of the last Hungarian Grand Prix, it seems, according to Autosprint, that the German will once again give up his place to the Brazilian in Belgium and Italy, and then to Romain Grosjean for the first free practice session of the Singapore Grand Prix.

For several weeks, Nick Heidfeld seems increasingly on an ejectable seat, with Eric Boullier not hiding his disappointment. To replace the German, the names Senna and Grosjean are persistently mentioned, and the Franco-Swiss driver’s name even tops the list for 2012 in case Robert Kubica cannot return. The DAMS driver currently leads the GP2 Series championship with a comfortable lead over his closest rival, the Dutchman Giedo Van der Garde, and could even clinch the title at the next meeting, at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. With the GP2 championship ending at the Monza event, Romain Grosjean will be available to the team from the Singapore Grand Prix onwards.

However, this information should be taken with a grain of salt, as Eric Boullier recently denied any possibility of seeing the Franco-Swiss driver behind the wheel of the R31 this season. « We wanted to give Bruno some experience as a reserve driver. I think Romain might be on our radar for next season, but we absolutely do not plan to give him track time at the moment. »

Romain Grosjean was however spotted at the wheel of a Lotus Renault GP on Tuesday, as part of a promotional event organized by the team at the Castellet circuit, intended, according to Var Matin, for a select few guests. Present were Eric Boullier in person and Gilles Dufeigneux, advisor on major sporting events to François Fillon, tasked by the latter to ensure a future for the French Grand Prix, which would greatly benefit from having a French driver on the grid to have a chance of success.
