Lewis Hamilton does not rule out driving for Ferrari
While the Briton does not consider driving for Ferrari, he does not rule out the idea and admits to having learned alongside Fernando Alonso, the current leader of the Scuderia.
Just a few months ago, asking Lewis Hamilton if he was considering a future with Scuderia Ferrari would have warranted a declaration of unwavering loyalty from the English driver to his current team: McLaren-Mercedes. However, in recent weeks, Lewis Hamilton has been somewhat more open when it comes to his future in a different suit than the predominantly gray one. The 2008 world champion has even gone so far as to publicly state technical and commercial conditions for extending his future with the team based in Woking. These “threats” should of course be analyzed in the context of the ongoing negotiations for the extension of his contract beyond 2012, but they also pique the curiosity of the media.
In Canada, a simple “friendly” visit to the Red Bull hospitality area triggered a wave of rumors, including the announcement of a supposed pre-contract between the energy drink seller and the McLaren driver for 2013. Another visit, also in Montreal, to Ferrari’s hospitality went unnoticed, but when it comes to questioning a champion of Hamilton’s caliber about his future prospects, the Maranello team generally serves as a mandatory stop, an more or less unspoken dream, or even a pure and simple fantasy.
If the English driver confides to the newspaper AS not to think about it, he nonetheless leaves the door open: « For the moment, I have no plans; it’s not something I desire or feel the need to do. However, we’re talking about a fantastic team, and you never know what might happen in the future. »
However, if the idea were to take him in the coming years to want to settle in Maranello, the Briton would encounter a serious obstacle in the person of Fernando Alonso, who, after their tumultuous cohabitation in 2007, does not want to find himself in such a situation again. However, despite their common history, it seems that the 2008 world champion did not take only negativity from his cohabitation with the Spanish driver. Alonso is an incredibly fast driver with extraordinary talent and incredible speed. We know he will always give his maximum. I learned a lot from him as a driver, I improved my driving skills by having him as a teammate.
One thing is certain: if there is one thing the Brit has undoubtedly learned from Fernando Alonso, it’s to never say “I will never drink from your fountain!”
