Sunday: Williams made too many mistakes in Hungary
Cold shower for the British team which, in addition to a penalty for speeding in the pit lane by Pastor Maldonado and damage caused to the front wing of Rubens Barrichello's car, opted for the wrong strategy by fitting intermediate tires when the rain appeared on track again.
Rubens Barrichello – 13th
« I’m rather disappointed with the result because we were fighting for a few points today. We struggled with our tires throughout the race and I lost a part of my front wing at the beginning of the Grand Prix. Then, when it started raining, I saw a good opportunity for us. I saw Hamilton spin and thought we could do something to finish high in the points, but the rain lasted barely a lap, so our stop to switch to intermediate tires didn’t work out. It’s a shame, but we’re not in the rhythm at the moment. »
Pastor Maldonado – 16th
It was a difficult race. We made progress by a few positions at the start but it was challenging to stay on the track even with intermediate tires.
I made a mistake during my first pit stop by not pressing the speed limiter button, which means I received a penalty.
It then started raining again. It was a lottery to determine whether to switch to intermediate tires or stick with slicks. We chose the intermediate tires, but the rain stopped shortly after, so we had to pit again for slick tires.
We didn’t score any points today, but we made some progress this weekend and we will work hard during the summer break to prepare for the last races of the season.

Although the result doesn’t reflect it, our lap times in qualifying and the race this weekend showed that our car is more competitive on a dry track than in previous rounds.
We made too many mistakes today and we will review our procedures to resolve these issues by the next Grand Prix at Spa. We are also using this time to bring more performance to the car for the last races.
