The future of Grosjean at LRGP depends on Kubica
While Nick Heidfeld's future seems increasingly limited at Lotus Renault GP, Romain Grosjean's future seems linked to the return of Robert Kubica, even though other teams seem interested in the Franco-Swiss driver.
Since Eric Boulier admitted on Eurosport that Nick Heidfeld was a disappointment, the German driver’s seat has been the subject of rumors, successively suggesting Bruno Senna—who will drive Quick Nick’s R31 this Friday morning—and Romain Grosjean as replacement options.
« He is obviously on my radar, » states Eric Boulier about the current GP2 leader. « I believe he has the potential to be among the best. »
However, the Franco-Swiss driver already had his chance in the past with Renault in 2009, but under poor conditions. The Team Principal of Lotus Renault Grand Prix is nonetheless confident about his driver’s chances. « Being close to him now, I can confirm that he has changed and is more mature than he was two years ago. »
An opinion shared, in today’s edition of Equipe, by Gérard Lopez, owner of the team where Vitaly Petrov and Nick Heidfeld are currently racing, but also head of Gravity, the driver management company to which Grosjean is affiliated. He has gained stature and perfectly fills the role that might have been a bit big for him a few years ago. Nothing shakes him. He is much more confident. What he is achieving in GP2 is impressive, not only because of the results but especially because of the way he achieves them.
A permanent position at Lotus Renault GP, however, depends on Robert Kubica’s future. « Vitaly has a contract with us until 2012, » states Gérard Lopez. « We could imagine a Vitaly-Romain duo, but that doesn’t depend on us. Everything hinges on Robert Kubica’s health » explains Gérard Lopez.
It seems, however, according to Eric Boulier, that Romain Grosjean is on the radar of three teams.
