Disqualification of Buemi for non-compliant fuel
The Toro Rosso failed the post-qualification inspection and the Swiss driver has been disqualified but will still take part in the German Grand Prix, which takes place tomorrow at the Nürburgring.
After inspecting Sebastien Buemi’s car, he, who had qualified in 16th position, was excluded from the qualifications due to an anomaly found during tests on the fuel sample taken from his tank.
The said sample indeed showed differences in composition compared to the control sample provided before the Grand Prix by the Italian team, exceeding the limits set by Article 19.8.3 of the FIA technical regulations.
The Swiss driver will indeed participate in tomorrow’s race but will start from the last position on the grid.
For their defense, Toro Rosso claims that the problem was triggered by a fuel pressure issue. During Friday’s free practice 1, Buemi’s car encountered fuel pressure problems which then worsened at the start of free practice 2, during which he did not record any time. After that, the entire fuel system was changed on his car. […] The team believes that a part of the system contained a chemical that contaminated the fuel, thus causing its non-compliance.
