Saturday: Red Bull drivers satisfied with their positions
While everyone expected a Red Bull Racing one-two in the final minutes, it was Mark Webber who secured pole position, and Sebastian Vettel had his worst qualification of the year, finishing in 3rd place.
Mark Webber – 2nd and 1st
The session was very good, except for my stint in Q2, which wasn’t great. The other sessions were good, and the guys did a great job with the car, they had some long nights leading up to this event, but they did really well. During my in-lap, I was thinking if someone catches me, they deserve it. Like I don’t think I could have done better than that – it was my limit and a very good lap. It’s very satisfying to see that no one managed to in the end, it was 30 very stressful seconds to wait. I’ll be there to push really hard tomorrow.
Sebastian Vettel – 1st and 3rd
« It was a tough session. I think we came back well, considering that yesterday I couldn’t find the right direction, but the car seemed much better this morning. I think we could have been a bit faster in qualifying here and there, but Mark did a good lap and I think we still have a good chance starting from 3rd place. It’s going to be a long race and you never know what will happen with the weather here. Rain is forecasted, but we don’t know how much and when. Anyway, in the end, that’s not what matters most, the most important thing is to have a solid race and our goal is to win, which is not impossible from 3rd place – it’s the clean side of the track and we’re starting from there. I’m looking forward to tomorrow – it doesn’t happen very often that you have so many people coming here and supporting the German drivers, so I’m going to do everything I can to enjoy the race tomorrow. »
