Rosberg will drive Fangio’s W196

After Fernando Alonso at Silverstone had the chance to drive the victorious Ferrari from 1951 driven by Gonzalez, Nico Rosberg will drive the W196 of Juan Manuel Fangio during the German Grand Prix.

In 1954, Fangio won the German Grand Prix against Gonzalez after a 3-hour and 45-minute race on the legendary Nürburgring track, over 22 kilometers long.

Coming to the Nürburgring for the German Grand Prix is always special for me. There are so many memories on this incredible track, particularly for Mercedes-Benz with great drivers from the past who have had a lot of success at the Nürburgring, says Nico Rosberg.

This year I will have the opportunity to drive the car that Juan-Manuel Fangio drove in 1954, and it will be really special. But obviously, I am eagerly waiting for the Grand Prix itself.

The best result for Rosberg at the Nürburgring remains his fourth place achieved in 2009 with a Williams. After the progress glimpsed at Silverstone, doing as well this year would be a very good result for the Mercedes GP driver.

« I hope we can take another step forward with our new package and close the gap with the leaders. It will be exciting to drive in front of the German crowd in the Mercedes-Benz grandstand. Hopefully, they will see a good performance from me and the car.
